Recently at a client, the following error started occurring without any warning. The error says that “The Trial Period for this product has exprired” hmm. This error occurs as soon as a ‘new’ is clicked on the SharePoint menu. Now my client is confused and they came back asking if they purchased the correct licenses :-). Well, we knew the licenses were good so what else could be the problem?
As it turns out, if you are one of those lucky few who downloaded and installed MOSS SP2 between April 28, 2009 and July 29, 2009, then (get this :-)). a product expiration date is activated incorrectly (Fun isn’t it ?). Well, thanks to Microsoft that they realized this mistake and updated the SP2 with the files, but what about the folks who were diligent and installed SP2 before July 29? For those folks (like my client), we have hot fix available to be applied on the server. A word of caution, after the hot fix installation, server reboot is required. So, please choose appropriate time to perform the installation.
